Hello U of T Troitsky! The moment we’ve all been eagerly anticipating has finally arrived! After months of planning, preparation, and hard work, our teams from the University of Toronto made the journey to Concordia University in Montreal to participate in the highly anticipated Troitsky Bridge Building Competition. This post will take you through the highlights of this thrilling three-day event, showcasing the dedication, teamwork, and engineering skills that went into representing U of T at this exciting event!

Troitsky 2025 - Concordia University

Day 1:

The first day of the Troitsky Bridge Building Competition was filled with anticipation and energy as teams arrived, unpacked their materials, and equipment. After a long and tiring commute to Montreal, there was an undeniable sense of excitement as participants prepared for the days ahead. The evening started in the introduction banquet, a lively and welcoming event where teams had the opportunity to meet and interact with one another. It was inspiring to see the enthusiasm of students from Canada, each team proudly representing their universities through creative and elaborate costumes. The banquet not only provided a chance to relax and unwind after the journey but also fostered a sense of community and friendly competition. The diverse array of outfits and school pride on display added to the festive atmosphere, setting the stage for the intense engineering challenges to come!

Day 2:

The second day was packed with excitement and energy as teams prepared for the final build session. Each team from various universities gathered at their designated stations, ready to set up their bridges and put their hard work to the test. The atmosphere was buzzing with anticipation as competitors arranged their builds, making final adjustments to ensure everything was in place. The sense of focus and determination was evident in every team member’s actions, reflecting the countless hours of preparation leading up to this moment. To keep spirits high, music played in the background, creating a lively environment, while food and drinks were generously provided, offering much-needed refreshments and fueling the energy of the day. It was a perfect balance of work and fun, as everyone took the opportunity to relax, socialize, and bond over their shared passion for engineering.

It was fascinating to witness the diversity of designs, with each bridge showcasing a wide array of innovative solutions and unique engineering approaches. Some bridges featured intricate truss systems, while others boasted sleek, modern designs, each one a testament to the creativity and skill of the students behind them. Teams from all over came together in a collaborative spirit, sharing ideas, offering encouragement, and admiring each other’s innovative designs. The level of commitment was truly inspiring, as students cheered for each other’s successes and offered support during any challenges faced. It was amazing to see how the competition brought out the best in everyone, driving each group to push the limits of their designs while maintaining a fun and supportive atmosphere. The energy was contagious, and it was clear that, no matter the outcome, every participant was gaining invaluable experience, forging connections, and having a blast in the process!

Day 3

The third day was filled with rising tension and excitement as the final moments of the competition approached. This was the day when everything would be put to the ultimate test – the crushing day! Teams gathered together, eagerly awaiting the moment when each of their bridges would face the hydraulic press, eager to see how their designs would hold up under pressure. There was an air of suspense as everyone watched closely, each team hoping their bridge would stand strong and endure the crushing force. The environment was electric, with a mix of nervousness and excitement, as each team’s creation was put through its paces. To keep the energy high, the event was followed by music and dancing, providing a fun and upbeat way to unwind after the intense testing. The music pumped through the venue, and participants couldn’t help but join in the celebration, dancing and enjoying the moment. This allowed everyone to let loose and enjoy the moment! 

After all the crushing was done, and the excitement settled, we gathered for the final banquet, where the winners were announced. The atmosphere was filled with anticipation, as teams anxiously awaited the results, holding their breath as the names were called. The suspense was unbearable, with everyone reflecting on their journey throughout the competition. When the results were finally revealed, we couldn’t contain our excitement – we are proud to say that, for every category, a UofT team secured a position! It was a testament to the hard work, dedication, and talent of all our teams.

The cherry on top came when Team 6 claimed 2nd place overall! It was an incredible feeling to see our efforts not only recognized but rewarded, knowing that each challenge we faced and every obstacle we overcame had brought us to this moment of triumph. For Team 6, this achievement was a reflection of their commitment to excellence, innovation, and teamwork, and it was a true highlight of the event.

As we left the banquet, we couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of accomplishment and fulfillment. The competition had been more than just a test of our engineering skills – it was a celebration of our growth, collaboration, and resilience. We walked away with lasting memories of unforgettable moments, new friendships, and a strengthened bond within our team. The experience had taught us valuable lessons, both technical and personal, and we were already looking forward to the next challenge, ready to bring our best once again!!
