Our first workshop of the year was a review of CIV100 topics to help everyone joining the club either better understand or review ideas that will help up build their bridge. In order to make the best possible bridge you can, one needs to understand where the forces will be acting and how to account for them.
The club’s design directors held this workshop and reviewed topics such as, types of connections and reactions, and how to find moments. One of the examples used in this workshop was a bridge with a distributed load to show how the hydraulic press will act on your bridge. The workshop was also useful because students were able to interact with the executives and ask questions easily since it was not as large as a lecture. Additionally, we shared resources like, Skule courses for past tests and exams and Jeff Hanson videos to better understand topics, which will help anyone excel in their CIV100 course.
We hope that you found this workshop really useful, not just for your design process but also for class! We have a few more workshops coming up, so don’t forget to find out more about them. We can’t wait to see you all there! Once again check out our website and Instagram for more updates!
