In this week’s workshop, our design directors, Saba and Isabelle, introduced the different types of bridges that teams can build for the competition. They highlighted the key features of each type and shared the best approaches for designing and constructing them.
For new members, especially first-year students with limited background in bridge design, the execs recommended starting with simpler designs, such as beam bridges, to build a solid understanding of fundamental statics and design principles. Once familiar with these basics, members can progress to more complex structures, like arch or truss bridges. However, the choice is entirely up to each team, and anyone confident in tackling a more challenging design will have the full support of the executive team.
Hopefully, this workshop helped you narrow down your choice of bridge type, and remember—the team is always here to assist with any questions along the way!
